Neobio: A Revolutionary Family Park by Pig Design

Reimagining Urban Spaces with a Child-Centric Approach

Neobio, a family park designed by Pig Design, is a unique architectural marvel that redefines the concept of urban spaces. Located in Shenzhen's Futian District, this project is a testament to the evolution of architecture and its role in serving the community. The design is inspired by the growth and development of children, symbolized by a 7m high teat at the center of the front facade. This article explores the innovative design, unique properties, and the technology used in the realization of Neobio.

The city is a complex network of intertwined systems within a limited area. As cities expand and history advances, the form of architecture is constantly evolving. Earlier, architecture served religion, power, wealth, and the elites. However, today, the form of architecture and the objects it serves are changing. They are becoming more diversified, subdivided, and the functional boundaries are gradually blurring. This change is evident in the design of Neobio.

Neobio stands out for its unique properties. The design team has meticulously interlocked and overlapped the elements within the limited area, creating a space that mimics the growth, variation, and division of cells. This not only creates a visually appealing design but also resonates with the theme of growth and development that the park aims to symbolize.

The realization of Neobio involved the use of various materials such as ceramic tile, aluminum, terrazzo, stainless stone, wallpaper, acrylic, leather, carpet, and metallic paint. The design team faced challenges due to the original building facade formed by framed glass structure. It was difficult to install one sheet of aluminum on the facade with a height of 15m and an area of 500sqm, due to the lack of fulcrums to support the structure. However, the team overcame these challenges by creating steel frames and attaching them to the structures, thus ensuring good stability and effectively avoiding going beyond the architectural boundary.

The design of Neobio is not just about aesthetics, but also about functionality. The 7m high pacifier symbol centered on the front of the building alludes to the spatial core of the growth of juvenile form. The semi-circular arc of the entrance and the reverse semi-circular arc above form an upward growth trend in terms of visual dynamics. The outdoor space is a set of installations that forebodes cellular reproduction, duplication, and division of the vitality of life.

Neobio is a testament to the changing face of architecture and its role in serving the community. It is a space that not only serves as a family park but also as a symbol of growth and development. This project has been recognized for its innovative design and has been awarded the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2022.

In conclusion, Neobio by Pig Design is a revolutionary project that redefines the concept of urban spaces. It is a unique blend of aesthetics and functionality, symbolizing the growth and development of children. The project showcases the evolution of architecture and its role in serving the community, making it a noteworthy addition to the urban landscape of Shenzhen.
